A Greenville County, South Carolina bus accident has sent nine people to the hospital, including seven students and the drivers of both vehicles that collided, according to Fox Carolina. At around 8:22am on Wednesday, a school bus and a pickup truck crashed, leading to heavy frontal damage to at least the school bus and a bevy of injuries for the drivers and occupants. Although the crash was originally reported as a fatal crash, the Georgia Highway Patrol says that it has not been notified of any fatalities.
The crash occurred at 1836 W. Georgia Road near Greenville Technical College’s Brashier campus when the driver of a pickup truck crashed into the bus. Allegedly, 42-year-old Michelle Kaufman crossed the center line of the road and hit the oncoming bus head-on. The 51 students aboard the bus were from Woodmont Middle School. Police report that the students’ injuries are not considered serious.
Stanislav Kolesnyk, a senior in high school, allegedly saw the accident occur, checked on the students on the bus, and then used a fire extinguisher to put out a fire in the pickup truck. Kaufman has been charged with driving under the influence. She was reportedly entrapped when police arrived and was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
