Last week, Morgan and Morgan’s own Carlos Leach received the prestigious honor of being nominated as one of the Nation’s Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers Under 40 for 2013 by the National Bar Association (NBA) and IMPACT.
The Orlando-based attorney, who handles cases involving insurance disputes and overtime and minimum wage law violations, was selected after a five-member selection committee reviewed more than 150 nominations of young, African-American lawyers from across the United States.
To be nominated for the award, a lawyer must:
- Be a duly licensed attorney in good standing in at least one jurisdiction
- Be 40 years-old or younger as of July, 2013
- Not be a member of the NBA Board of Governors, NBA-YLD Board, Event Host Committee, NBA staff or IMPACT director
In addition to litigating hundreds of wage and hour cases, Leach has been appointed the lead class counsel in more than two dozen class action lawsuits.
Leach, a partner with Morgan & Morgan, has practiced law in Orlando since 2006, focusing his work on wage and hour litigation. As a result of his achievements inside and out of the courtroom, Leach was included on the 2013 Florida Rising Stars list of up-and-coming trial lawyers by Florida Super Lawyers Magazine.
The National Bar Association is the oldest and largest collection of African-American attorneys and judges in the country. Established in 1925 by five African-American attorneys who were denied membership into the American Bar Association, the NBA has grown substantially, partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau in 2010 in an effort to more accurately account for the nation’s population through numerous outreach projects.
Founded in 2006 in Washington D.C., IMPACT is a nonprofit organization that strives to engage and build a network of young professionals or varying ethnicities in order to boost civic involvement, increase knowledge of political and legislative processes, and enhance economic empowerment opportunities.
