Jelly Belly Candy Company has recalled mislabeled packages of its jelly beans. The packages involved in the recall are the 7.5 ounce cylinder-shaped containers of 49 flavors Jelly Belly jelly beans. The recall was issued after the candy company’s quality control team discovered that the jelly bean packages did not list peanut flour and peanut butter as ingredients. Consumers with peanut allergies can suffer life-threatening allergic reactions if they eat the recalled jelly beans.
The mislabeled Jelly Belly packages were sent to nearly 200 independent stores across the country between Sept. 29 and Oct. 30, 2009. The recalled packages contained the following lot numbers:
- 090925
- 090928
- 090929
- 091001
The recalled jelly bean packages are also marked with the UPC code 071567989398.
To date, no allergic reactions related to the recalled jelly beans have been reported. The recalled jelly beans pose no risk to consumers who are not allergic to nuts and no other candies made by Jelly Belly are involved in the recall.
