Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s company, Dualstar Entertainment Group, allegedly failed to pay its interns.
Dualstar, a licensing and manufacturing company, was founded by the now-29 year old twins when they were 6. The company oversees their two fashion labels, Elizabeth and James and The Row.
The class-action lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, claims the interns were denied academic or vocational credit and therefore are entitled to minimum wage.
Interns were required to complete tasks and duties similar to those of paid employees. Former interns claim that they were doing the work of multiple interns, working up to 50 hours a week without compensation. One intern claimed to be hospitalized for dehydration.
“It was like 100 degrees outside,” she said. “I’d just be sweating to death. I probably carried like 50 pounds worth of trench coats” to factories at The Row.
