Honda has recalled nearly 438,000 cars globally to fix the vehicles’ airbag inflators. The Japanese automaker stated that the driver’s side airbags can deploy with too much pressure. The air bags pose a risk to consumers due to excessive internal pressure, which can result in the release of metal shards. The company has received reports of one death and 12 incidents related to the defective airbags. U.S. vehicles involved in the Honda recall include the following:
- 2001-2002 Accords and Civics
- 2001-2002 Odyssey minivans
- 2001-2002 CR-V SUVs
- 2002 Acura TL cars
The entire production of each model is not necessarily included in the recall. Honda stated that it will inform affected customers via mail or phone regarding the inspection and repairs of these vehicles. Last month, Honda announced a separate recall of 2007-2008 City, Jazz and Fit models due to a fire hazard stemming from a power window switch.
