Graco Children’s Products Inc. has recalled approximately 1.5 million Graco’s Passage, Alano, and Spree Strollers and Travel Systems. The stroller’s canopy hinges present a laceration and fingertip amputation risk to the child when the canopy is being opened or closed. To date, Graco has received reports of seven injuries—two fingertip lacerations and five fingertip amputations. These injuries occurred after the child placed their fingers in the canopy hinge while the canopy was being opened or closed.
Graco created strollers with two types of hinge mechanisms. Those with plastic, jointed hinges and indented canopy positioning notches are the only strollers/travel systems included in this recall. Manufactured between Oct. 2004 and Feb. 2008, the recalled strollers were sold at the following retailers:
- Kmart
- Babies “R” Us
- Burlington Coat Factory
- Toys “R” Us
- Fred Meyer
- Sears
- Walmart
- Navy Exchange
- Target
- AAAFES
- Meijers
Available between Oct. 2004 and Dec. 2009, the strollers sold for between $80 and $90, while the travel systems sold for between $150 and $200.
Consumers with the recalled strollers and travel systems should stop using the products immediately. Visit the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for a list of model numbers involved in the recall and photos which can help you determine whether your stroller has been affected.
