A family in Palmetto is preparing to file a Florida wrongful death lawsuit against the owners of a nightclub for negligent security. The deceased, 25-year-old Trayon Goff, was reportedly shot and killed in front of Club Elite in Palmetto on September 10. Another man, Gwenette Matthews, 38, died of gunshot wounds, and 22 others were injured in the shooting, according to Bradenton.com.
The potential claim alleges that the nightclub owners were negligent in failing to provide adequate security around the premises of the building. Where before the owners had staffed off-duty police officers to patrol the club exterior, its surrounding sidewalks, and the adjacent parking lots, their contract with the Palmetto Police Department was ended a few months before the shooting transpired, according to reports.
