Charges have been filed against a girl and her mother for their roles in a crash that left a 40-year-old Sandtown Middle School teacher dead. Jim Price had just picked up his wife Kay Price and Shireen Haynes, both teachers at the school, when their car was hit by a vehicle driven by a teen driver. The impact caused their car to spin into the path of a tractor trailer, resulting in the death of math teacher Shireen Haynes. According to CBS 46, the Prices were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, but are improving.
The accident occurred on Camp Creek Parkway in Fulton County. Allegedly, mother Syreeta Collins instructed her daughter to drive without a proper license or adult supervision, telling the teen that she could follow her. The girl has been charged with vehicular homicide in the 2nd degree, failure to maintain a lane, driving on a restricted license and having a suspended registration. Collins was charged with allowing an unauthorized driver to operate a vehicle.
Collins released a statement saying “My family and I would like to express its deepest sympathy and condolences for the accident that happened Monday, March 19, 2012, on Camp Creek Parkway near Campbellton Road. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Haynes family, the Price family and the entire Sandtown Middle School family as we all seek healing during this difficult time.”
